Winter Bible Conference Tomorrow, Jan. 31

The Winter Bible Conference is nearly here!

It's at CBC and starts at 9 Am and goes until 1 PM. Ron Ritchie will be speaking about Adventurous Living in the Age of the Spirit.

If you are still on the fence about attending, remember that Pastor Steve said Ron is the man he most wanted to speak at Crossroads.

On another note, if you want to read more on David, check out John Newton's latest blog entry. John is the CBC Communications Coordinator.

CBC Mommies

The CBC Mommies will still have their kick-off meeting tomorrow at Unity Park in Highland Village (on Briarhill Blvd off 407), but the time will be compressed to 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM since it will be a little chilly. If you haven't yet, sign up for the Yahoo! Group. Click here for more information about CBC Mommies.

Miscellaneous Notes

You might have noticed that it's a bit icy out there. Therefore, there will be no activities held at church today, again.

Don't forget the Winter Bible Conference this Saturday from 9 to 1. You can read more about it here. No RSVP required, except for childcare, which you can do here.

CBC Mommies are supposed to meet Friday at 10 AM, but I'm guessing they will move to an indoor location. Sign up here for the Yahoo! Group to get in on the conversation and to get updates.

You might notice that there are a lot of forms online that let you get in touch with leaders of various groups. I'm still adding more contact forms. If your group has a Yahoo! Group, MySpace Page, Facebook Page, or some other online gathering place, let me know so I can link to it. If your group is doing something really fun or charitable, let me know so I can tell everyone about it.

Delay Break Cookie Ministry

If you signed up for the Cookie Ministry, you can confirm the date here. You can also go there to email Chris to sign up.

The Delay Break Cookie Ministry is an awesome outreach that serves Delay Middle School children by providing tasty homemade cookies for their after-school program. These children meet at Lewisville Bible Church on Thursday afternoons after school to do Bible lessons and homework while eating as many cookies as possible that we provide.

Volunteers needed for Children's Sunday School

We are currently seeking volunteers for:

- 9 o'clock Drama Workshop Leader

- 10:45 5th-grade-girls' class assistant

- 10:45 Cooking Workshop Leader

The Sunday School ministry for grades 1 through 5 isn't like the Sunday School you and I went through. It starts out with kids' worship, then the students break up into small groups where they attend workshops that help them explore the bible through active participation. Afterwards, their small group spend time contemplating the day's lesson.

Spread the Word CBC has had the pleasure of serving in the Drama Workshop the last two weeks where the kids have been putting on a production of Jesus healing a blind man wherein the healed man shares his news and a pharisee comes to believe in Jesus. Each kid gets a part in the production and gets to wear a costume, then we film the show. They get to watch their performance when it's over. It's been really fun.

Children's Sunday School is a great experience for both the students and the volunteers. They way it's set up now, you can volunteer for a stint as short as one month. Contact Melissa Rowe to volunteer.

If you are looking for another way to volunteer, check out the opportunities on the Outreach Section of the CBC website (crossroadsbible.org)

Prayer Time starts Tuesday, January 20 at 7 PM

A mesage about Prayer Time from Cheri Hudspith:

A group of women gathered this past November and Jill Briscoe’s question, “Are you a praying church?” came up. During the conversation we decided to read “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire” by Jim Cymbala. Via email we talked about things we did not agree with in the book and about the encouragements we received from the book. This email conversation led to conversations about the desire to have an evening prayer time at the church.

So starting Tuesday night, January 20th at 7 in the Prayer Room there will be a prayer time for both men and women to come together to pray. As people are drawn to the prayer time we will trust the Lord to direct our focus. Initially we want to spend time thanking the Lord for the work He is doing through people at CBC and to ask the Lord for whatever is on our hearts to pray for.

If you desire to pray with other believers or discover more about prayer in community, then please ask the Lord whether or not He’d like for you to join us.

Life of David series starts Sunday

To gear up for the Life of David series, Steve will be going through the Old Testament on Sunday.

Crossroads is offering optional study guides for $3 each if you are interested in extra material to go along with the series. They might be a great resource for your small group or personal study. You can pick one up (or a dozen, if you like--might make a great gift) at the Ministry Center (under the stairs).

BTW, starting next week, we'll post the Grapevine online on Mondays in case you ever need to look back at something or missed the service. They will be posted under Contact CBC in the Publications section. I'll also put a link to them on the sermons section.

Re: Happy New Year!

It's here!

Having little kids, the spouse and I went to bed around 11. We were asleep when we heard a startling noise just after midnight.

The wife jumped up in a daze.

I told her not to worry--it's just the phone. And we lied back down.

It took me a second to realize what I had just said--the phone! I got up an answer it.

STW's mother-in-law is now on our "list" for calling after 10:30 PM.

Anyway,
Head over here to read Pastor Mike's thoughts on 2008 and here to read his 2009 Wish List.

Pastor Brent's looking for resolution suggestions over here.

If you haven't seen the new Crossroads website, you might be in for a shock.

If you aren't getting weekly email newsletters from CBC, sign up.
