CBC Riders Saturday Breakfast Ride Canceled

The weather forecast has all the elements that make a "ride" miserable i.e. NW wind, temps falling to the 30's and 60+% chance of rain.  In view of all this, the ride is canceled.  However it is still  "in the can" and available at a later date.

In its place – Next Saturday, the 27th – you are invited to attend the Men's Breakfast at Crossroads Bible Church starting at 08:00 AM in Double Oak.  Good food and fellowship and depart by  09:00 AM.  We will then go to the Coppell Police Motorcycle Competition held at the Andy Brown Park in Coppell to view teams from all over the US compete through obstacle courses.  There will be exhibitors and activities for kids as well – a family event – that will happening until 2:00 PM.

So come on down and support our men in blue who stand to defend your family every day.  Someone may not get this message, so I will be at the church
parking lot and accompany anyone to breakfast at the Village Grill in Highland Village.

Thank you for your understanding and my concern for your safety.

Coffee for HOPE this Sunday

Sunday the 21st and Sunday the 28th only, CBC will be selling La Mai coffee at church.  We will be selling La Mai for $10 per 16-oz bag, both whole bean and ground. All proceeds go to supporting HOPE and its partner, Rahab Ministries, in its efforts to fight child prostitution in Thailand.

The La Mai Coffee Story

La Mai is an organic, fairly traded coffee that is bringing hope to the people of northern Thailand. Farmers who once grew opium poppies and were central to the drug trade, now grow high quality coffee beans instead. Through a local growers cooperative, HOPE World Partnerships pays above Fair Trade prices for these beans giving the farmers a living wage.

La Mai beans are then shipped directly to the US and roasted with care in small batches. This captures the unique regional flavors and produces a great tasting cup of coffee. La Mai Coffee is sold whole bean or freshly ground with wholesale profits going back to Thailand to fight child prostitution.

Girls as young as 10 years old are being sold into the sex trade often by their parents. Through local partners like Rahab Ministries, HOPE helps rescue these girls educating them for a better future while working with families of even younger girls so they never get involved. With partnerships operating in 35 countries through relief, development, micro-enterprise and income generation HOPE World Partnerships is changing the lives of the poorest of the poor.

The need for perserverance

I've been teaching through the book of Hebrews this last 10 months. It's taking nearly a year to work through the book, but I have really enjoyed the study and my personal study in this amazing book. The intent of the author is to encourage the readers to not give up...even if things get tough. The reward ahead is worth the struggle. Keep going, it will be worth it.

In chapter 10 the author encourages his readers to "keep climbing!" Here are his words, "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." This same word appears again in chapter 12:1, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."

Between these two verses and the encouragement to "keep climbing" is chapter 11. This chapter is what has been called the "faith hall of fame." It's the list of men and women who persevered in their faith. It's the story of those who made it to the top and stuck their flags in the top of the mountain. Chapter 11 is a chapter that makes this simple declaration- others have done it, you can too...keep going!

This morning I was talking with a friend about what a "mature" Christian looks like and we both agreed that it's not a matter of age or knowledge. It's a person committed to the Lord regardless of the terrain. Yes, there are difficult days in each life, but there are also wonderful days of just sitting at the beach watching the sunset. Life is full of blessings, trials, friends, and the things everyone must go through. The difference is evident by those who continue to climb toward the peak regardless of the challenges. It's simply a matter of perseverance. Keep going! Others have made it to the top, you can too.

HS Camp-out Postponed

Just wanted to let you all know that we’re POSTPONING the camp-out at Crossroads that we had scheduled for this evening. Turns out that only 9 people would be able to attend, and we all know that’s not enough to have a really good game of capture the flag. So, we’re looking at a date in mid-May where more students can be a part of it.

However, we are going to invite EVERYBODY over the Brent’s house tonight from 7 to 10PM to hang out. Sure, we need to finish off the remaining pies from Pi Day. Sure, there will be Wii “Mario & Sonic’s Vancouver Winter Olympics.” Sure, there will be hanging out on the patio with the new fire pit fully operational. Sure, there will be a trampoline.

Jesus Walks on Water

My 5yo did the neatest craft in Sunday School yesterday.

When I cam to pick him up, he proudly showed me a 1-liter bottle filled a quarter of the way will blue water. Taped to one side of the bottle was an image of Jesus, placed at the top of the water line. When you look through the bottle, across the way you can see Jesus walking on the water. Pretty cool!

He asked if I wanted to see a storm, shook the bottle, and showed me Jesus walking on the stormy seas.

What a neat craft! I'll try to get a pic I can post later.
